How do I get a copy of my background check?

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you are entitled to a copy of our background check. If you were not hired or fired from a job due to a background check, the employer is required to provide a copy of the background check to you, and the name and address of the background check company. If you have been declined from housing or other opportunities that are not related to employment due to a background check, you should receive a notice that provides the name and contact information for the background check company.

Many background check companies require that you provide your date of birth, your social security number and a copy of your drivers’ license or other ID before they will release your file to you. Below is a sample letter that you can send to the company:


To whom it may concern:

Pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681g, I am requesting the entire contents of my consumer file. I have enclosed a copy of my drivers’ license. Please my file to [your address].
